Scots, nattily dressed

Dapper Scots

Well, I'm here to report that the Irish walk a whole heck of a lot SLOWER than the Scots do.

Please note that next year if you're planning to attend the Tartan Parade, make sure you're on time. It's only an hour long.

Whereas if your attending the NYC St. Patrick's Day parade, plan for a few hours.

ps. I'm sad I missed the bagpipes.

Tartans, and bagpipes

Rainy Tartan Day Parade, originally uploaded by dustin____.

Guess where I'll be tomorrow.

Yes, you guessed it, the Tartan Day Parade.

To quote Roja Heydarpour at the NY Times from last year's parade:

"Several thousand pipers and drummers in kilts will march up Avenue of the
Americas tomorrow for the ninth annual Tartan Day Parade. A celebration of
Scottish culture, the parade is the culmination of Tartan Week in New York."

The Skinny
Where: 6th Avenue, b/n 45th St. & 58th St.
When: 2:00
Who: Cool people.
Why: Because there are going to be men in skirts, oh, and BAGPIPES!!

Charlie's, honest crushed pineapple juice

9421006041032

Anyone know where I can get something like Charlie's (link slightly NSFW) Honest Crushed Pineapple Juice in the States?

I grew up experiencing pineapple juice from a can (like most others in the US). I remember the simple joy of punching triangle holes in the top of the canister with a can piercer, and then remembering to shake the can.

Ah, those were the days.

I also remember that awful metallic taste that would linger long after I’d taken my last sip.

After several years of buying my last can of pineapple juice, I somehow managed to pick up a box of it (it comes in boxes now) while I was in New Zealand of all places.

It tasted fresh, it had bits of pineapple pulp floating in the juice and best of all, it didn’t have that metallic taste (most likely because of the box).

So, does anyone know where I can get some just as good as Charlie’s Honest Crushed Pineapple Juice (link SFW, click on the pineapple link)? Stateside of course.

Sidenote: I’ve tried the Ceres brand, it’s yummy, doesn’t have that metallic aftertaste, but it’s not quite as good as I remember Charlie’s as being, specifically because it comes sans pulp. Any other suggestions?

Headshot, ryan s.

Ryan

I’m ordering some headshot fliers tomorrow and am putting “hottie” Ryan S. on the front.

What do you think? Will people book me in the hopes that I’ll make them look as fabulous as Ryan?

p.s. Some of you may remember him from this image I took last December.

K+R, new zealand

Annie

The weather was gorgeous, the air is cleaner and the skies bluer than you can imagine.

The bride was radiant, the groom had an Irish twinkle in his eye, the wedding party came from near and far (mostly far), and they were very happy.

By the time I returned to the US a Kiwi accent had infiltrated certain words and I’d adopted a bit of an Irish brogue.

Slideshow is here.

Hi, remember me?

It’s crazy how it can be absolutely freezing outside one day and then warm & balmy the next isn’t it? I guess that’s Spring for you. Happy day.

The past few weeks have sped by at an unusually fast pace and a lot of things have happened. Here’s a quick run-down:

The Ankle
Verdict: I’ve hobbled all over town and can thoroughly vouch that NYC is not crutch friendly. For example, have you ever noticed that the subway steps are slanted slightly downhill? Yeah, I didn’t notice either, until I was crawling up the steps the other day.

Good news: The sight of my aluminum appendages engendered sympathy, a personal bubble of space, and a bit of kindness from my fellow jaded New Yorkers. I suppose that since I was hobbling along slightly faster than molasses on a cold day helped facilitate that bubble of space, but on the whole, New Yorkers have been kind. (oh, and i’m sans crutches now)

Side note: I’m now the proud owner of a prescription for physical therapy and now wonder if it’s possible to get hypothermia or frost bite from sticking one’s foot into an icy cold whirlpool of water. Four to six more weeks and I’ll be as good as new.

The New Zealand Wedding
Yay: I’ve managed to wrestle a certain slideshow program into submission and have uploaded the presentation online. :) You can find the link to the New Zealand wedding pictures in the next blog post.

The Day-Job
Finally: Yes I saved the best for last, I’ve given notice at work and will be leaving the day job in tow weeks. (No this is not an April Fool’s joke.)

You may send your felicitations or condolences to not-so-bitter [at] i-m-bitter.com.

At long last, I’ll have enough time to implement the exciting blog changes that’ve been percolating for the better part of a year. A recipe section, a free stuff page where I’ll give away free stuff, and a section where I can sell the stuff that’s not free.

Since I’ll soon be out of the steady income paying my rent and would prefer not to beg for pennies on street corners, if you hear of anyone who needs a photographer, please keep me in mind.

April Fools, google style

This is almost as good as the internet through the sewer thing they pulled last year.
